CD

The connector domain (CD) is a structural element of the coronavirus spike (S) protein located in the S2 subunit. This domain acts as a linking segment between the central helix (CH) and other parts of the S2 subunit, providing structural integrity and coordinating conformational changes of the protein during the fusion process between the viral and cellular membranes.

The CD plays an important role in stabilizing the post-fusion conformation of the S protein and facilitates the efficient transition from the prefusion to the postfusion state, which is essential for viral entry into the host cell.
